I was inspired, by the post “IDIOTS!!!” over in the elysiun chat, to try modelling a mech simply because some people over at Mektek.net’s forum said blender is not good for making mechs. Find the post and you can read all about it. Anyway, Here is what I have so far.
Texturing will be the big pain.
Just letting some people know of my progress.
The arms are raised just till I’m done modelling, then they will be down where they belong
Yea man they were right , thats horrible. (Im kidding, dont start a flame war because of the joke.)
Looks really great is coming along very nicely. Looks like its missing a leg to me though.
Really great work for not being able to add seperate objects and then edit old ones. And also the program crashing all the time also.
Haha lmao man they didnt know anything about blender.
Its looking very good, have you implimented an armature system yet? I have yet to do this with mine, but i swear i will!!!
Definatly keep us posted on your progress, i love the look of your mech, very cool style, is this your own design?
Thanks for the comments. Alas this is not my own design. It is a Stone Rhino from Mechwarrior2 Ghost Bear legacy. I modelled it because someone at another forum said Blender was not good for mech modelling.
I followed one of the few pictures I could find on it and started with my favorite geometry, the UV sphere. That is what the center cockpit area is. I also used subsurf cubes extruded for several other parts.
I haven’t ventured into armatures yet because I’m having difficulty with getting the hang of it. Eventually I will try.
Well, I am done with
this project for awhile. There is always more that can be done, but I will not be working this for awhile. It is done for now.
So here is what I have.Finished for now but still WIP for a later time.Should I post this over at MEKTEK’s forum to show them that Blender is good for making Mechs?
I fixed the rock to sand area and changed lighting a little.
Looks really nice. And yea show them how good blender really is.
Only possible complaint is where the rock meets the water, mud, some fluid like material? :-?
The fluid should be more transparent to show a softer of an edge. :o
Hmmm…
I guess it does look like water. I meant it to be sand. I’m not sure how to make the part where rock meets sand more believable. I also just put together the environment to make me feel like I’m done with this project for awhile. I still may try to correct the rock to sand area.
My armature rigging capabilities are quite immature right now. There are many different ways I’ve seen it done and I still can’t figure out how to do it. It will take some time before I feel comfortable with armatures.
