Sub hexagon topology

I’m trying to make a hexagonal window that subdivides. Why does the subd modifier work asymmetrically and how should I be doing this?

many thanks in advance

Seems like you have duplicated vertices on some places.

And to keep the hexagon straight just mark the edges with crease at 1

thanks. any idea why I can’t direct a loop cut around the outer hexagon and the hole?

I’m not sure I understand the question, you mean creating an additional loop cut? If it’s not possible with Ctrl+R then you may have duplicate vertices somewhere

its not that important but i was trying to add another loop aroudn the hexagon and no matter where i moved my mouse blender wouldn’t put a loop there

Did you check for duplicated vertices…? That’s the only reason I can think about for not being able to add a loop cut where a loop already exists…

yeah, no duplicates. its something to do with my topology

Post the blend if you want us to take a look for you.
