Subdividable Text

Hi I’m trying to make text floaters for a model that I’m going to bake. What I’m looking to do is to have this text appear as though it’s sunken in. I’ve tried converting text to a mesh extruding and then scaling along normals, then flipping normals to get something like this.

However this is really sharp angled and I’d like it to be a little smoother, Is there an easy way to subdivide text? it’s been quite a lot of work getting the edge loops and everything just right, for one letter, let alone the amount of text I’m trying to do.
