Subdivision modifier error

Hi all,

I am currently experiencing a problem with my sub-division modifier. With reference to the picture attached, why is it that there is a gap in the centre of the seat where the vertices met?

All the settings I’ve used for the subdivision modifier are also in the screenshot attached. Please advice thanks!

Try to move up the mirror modifier so it is applied first.
You either click the up arrow icon in the mirror modifier
or
the down arrow in the subdivision modifier.

I’ve tried that too. Doesn’t work

Make sure the vertices are exactly in the center, otherwise they might not merge. You could also increase the merge limit.

Ah okay! It fixed itself once I increase the merge limit! Thanks a lot

That probably means that the vertices were not perfectly in the center

Mmm but I have clipping enabled, and I did pull them all the way to the center using G + X and forced them together. Is there any other way that I can verify this? Alt + M?

Yes, you could enable the mirror modifier to be visible in edit mode ( last symbol with the triangle) and check if the vertices perfectly align.

But reset the merge limit before that

Alright thanks so much!

I guess, mirroring done on x-axis.

If you need to re-align center vertices (e.g. after vertex smooth), you could set Cursor to World Origin,
… Select center loop
… Set cursor to world origin
… Set pivot to cursor
… Scale to 0 (zero) along x-axis
This will project vertices to y/z plane. Then mirror modifier’s Merge will do the rest.
