subdivision surfaces

Hiya
Has anyone got any suggestions as to where to look to learn about subdivision surfaces, Have been trying to follow Lyubomir Kovachevs’ Pixar Eyes Tutorial, but my nurb spheres just don’t wanna cooperate when I subdivide them.
