They just got devoured by Adobe, it is never good news. Is there good alternative? Especially on Linux?

As for alternative it depends what you use it for exactly. On my part I was not a user yet but I was looking at it to try if it can help me for my texture painting with higher res than what I was dcapable in zbrush. But after seeing this lecture by Antropus about how to paint extremely high rez details in zbrush I think I will stick with Zbrush: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lfen-BSwWcE&t=1310s
Yes, you are right. This was a really sad day for people like me. I seriously thought about buying Substance Designer, but fortunatly i didn’t. Looking too for good alternatives…
