Sugar bowl & a citrine gem

Done in blender 2.62 with Cycles + some curves adjustments in PS.

C & C’s are welcome!

Cheers

Really nice, how did you do the sugar material?

Thanks! - I basically just added a circular plane with a large noise displacement modifier, and then in the cycles nodes setup, added a slight very tiny noise texture into the displace input.

The first noise is for larger clumps, and the smaller one is supposed to emulate tiny granules.

Nice work. Great colour scheme.
The citrene is a bit noisy but not to any level that detracts from the image.

True - the citrine would probably need a lot more passes to get rid of those fireflies. Which is what MLT would really help out with! I can’t wait for that and bidirection path tracing in cycles

Really nice image, love the sugar and color corrections. Congrats

Sadly, MLT and bi-directional PT aren’t Brecht’s goals, you can read it on the Cycles roadmap/design goals. Hope some coder can do it independently, like storm_st or someone else, cause the benefits would be amazing. We’ll see, maybe Brecht has some ace in the hole for us.

Cheers

Ah booo :frowning:

Yeah, it’s too bad Mike Farny is headed off to work on Arnold. Although realistically, it was only a matter of time before a brilliant mind like his was taken onto a project of that scale.
