Suggestions for a new laptop

I’ve finally decided to it’s time to get a new computer. The computer I have now is more than 7 years old and I need a powerful (and portable) computer for college. I have a few ideas on the type of laptop that I want, but I thought it would be best to get some opinions from the forums.

I’m looking for a laptop with a Nvidia graphics card and fantastic OpenGL + GLSL support. My price range is anything between $1000 - $500 (I might go lower or higher if the stats are good).

I’ve also thought about buying these laptops. What do you think about them and/or can you suggest anything better?

Laptop 1:

  • $650
  • Nvidia 9300 512MB
  • Core 2 duel processors
  • 14.1 inch screen
  • 250 GB disk space

Laptop 2:

  • $900
  • Nvidia 9800 512MB
  • Core 2 duel processors
  • 15 inch screen
  • 350 GB disk space

Laptop 3:

  • $1000
  • Nvidia 260GTX 1GB
  • 15.6 inch screen
  • 350 GB disk space

instead of lugging around a 2-ton laptop, another option might be to buy a small/cheap netbook to carry around, and a more powerful desktop (you get more bang for your buck with desktops) for heavy-duty stuff…

…like blender!

also a netbook doesn’t work if you have large hands
