I finally found a way to create the ‘outline’ on the helmet and cuirass using a combination of extrude and bevel. Currently I’m trying to figure out how to bake a normal map the will ‘bring out’ the outline. What’s your opinion on what I have so far?

i would suggest using a normal map, they look much nicer than bump maps
I just remembered that it actually is a normal map, I just forgot to say so.
