Sunset city (Anime)

This is by far my favorite piece I have ever made in Blender. This background was done in cycles which is not what I typically use but I wanted to push my abilities to the limits to create the most realistic Anime background in blender. To see more follow me on twitter https://twitter.com/cg_freek

This is really pretty, nice work! Your shaders are absolutely incredible - can you share any more information about them?

This feels very faithful to the style, not too CG like, but balanced just enough to be admirable. Great job!

Yea shore is there any specific you would like to know? This piece Was very complex but in general it was a lot of work with freestyle lines, lighting, and compositing.

I’d specifically love to see your shaders for the building on the left, it has nice tight edges but still the painterly look that really sells this style. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do that myself, it looks like you’ve got some Pointiness in there? Maybe?

Thank you very much

here is the shader for the Orange building on the left with the door this was the general shader I used for all the buildings

This is the shader for the tiles on the ground The reflections are from a plane this is hidden from the world but not hidden from screen space reflections and that is used to get reflections on them that looks so good of the background

What’s the idea behind using Generated coords as a normal input for the AO node, and UV coords for the Bevel node?

Thanks for sharing, imitating a style so perfectly is very difficult and you nailed it!

The implementation and technics of/behind different artstyles always amazed me… ●‿●

I believe the only reason it is like that is because I was having trouble with getting the Bevel node to work the way I wanted it so I was playing around different ways to get the effect I wanted other than That theres really no technical reason as to why I did it. I would do it a bit differently now as I would use goo engine for the curvature node which is much better than the bevel node
