Can anyone tell me if there is a way to change the object your working on from the keyboard and not by clicking on it im trying to texture some stuff but meshes are close together

You could use the outliner. Open an outliner window and you can select the object you want to edit in there.
easier if you put a name on the object first
then to take mesh.0004 as a name

There’s an easier way.
If you press ALT+RMB while hovering your mouse over the multiple meshes, a menu will appear that will allow you to select which mesh you want to work with.
