Tablet Navigation Question

Hey everyone!

I’m having an issue with the middle mouse navigation in Blender with my tablet setup.

When I use middle mouse button to orbit around an object with my pen (or any variation of that ctrl, shift, or alt for navigation options) it’s hit or miss whether or not it will function how it’s supposed to.

Sometimes it will execute middle mouse navigate, sometimes it will begin to drag out the dotted selection box, and sometimes nothing will happen at all. Last time I was doing a sculpting tutorial video this wasn’t happening, and I’m curious why it might be happening now? It’s making it impossible to navigate around.

I am just starting to learn how to sculpt using Blender and a tablet. I’m using Blender 3.0 with a XP-Pen Deco 01 V2. I have the two buttons on my pen set to middle mouse button, and right click. I also have the “Windows Ink” box disabled because I read that can cause issues.

Any suggestions?

I have a fairly old XP-Pen Display :slightly_smiling_face:. The usual recommendation, which works very well, is to go to Blender’s Preferences > Input and activate Emulate 3 Button Mouse. Once done, you can use the keyboard’s Alt key as if it was your mouse’s middle button while pressing your stylus against the tablet’s surface:

Alt: rotate.
Alt-Shift: pan.
Ctrl-Shift: zoom.

I find that feels far handier and smoother than trying to set the stylus’ buttons to work as a middle button, and it also frees those for other uses.

The trade-off is that Alt-clicking on overlapping objects or bones to produce a selection menu stops working. I’m still trying to find that one in Blender’s keymap to change its keyboard shortcut .

(Disabling Windows Ink in the tablet driver doesn’t seem to be necessary at all. Everything is working correctly with it on, and Blender seems to be compatible with it, judging from its Tablet API options

EDIT: that said, disabling it seems to correct some kind of pressure sensitivity hiccups at the beginning of a series of brushstrokes)
