Team Project: Fandango

So aside from are we going to use octane the other question is buckles or laces? Let us know what you guys think.
I have to make some boots for a supper close up shot and I want it to be right.

Buckles definitely.
As for the ship render wise looks good. The forward thruster wing-fin things feel like they could use some more chaffing/aging or beveling -Not sure exactly what but perhaps some UV mapped rust for the edges. The edges just look too clean.

Keep it up guys!

Lol buckles. Got it. And the ship was just to test out octane. Does not have all the textures yet.

Aye, but the results were better then expected, so may lay down some better “temproary” textures. I also agree, the front edges should probably have a fillet. Maybe a quick grunge & abrasion layer… I must admit, I’m curious now.

A video i did for testing octane. Used the boot as my model.

Here is the video.

Still working on the boot for the close up…

This is a placement test for one of the first shots.

Looking nice, still following, nice detail on the boots and pants Levisarts

Thanks for the comment. And still a lot of texturing to do plus some sculpting on the boot it self.

Ah the rocks are smaller than I expected.
If the boot is for the desert it should be much much dirtier. If they’ve just landed the pants might not have to be but the soles of the boots should be sandy.

As for the placement. I’m not sure if you’re just testing for scale or not, but I don’t like the lighting. There are too many lights casting shadows in different directions and not nearly dark enough or sharp enough. It doesn’t really match the environment.

As a side note, since you are doing boots on sand you should look into Dynamic Mesh Paint -there’s a build available with it and a patch I think too on Graphicall -Could be a nice easy way to get more interaction between sand and boot.

HAHA this is a placement test only the textures and sculpt is only half done plus the lighting that was in the scene was a linked copy and i didn’t realize i for got to turn the shadow of on the fill lamps… I fixed that now but as far as the ground there is going to be a high polly ground plain under the boots this test was to find out where i should cut and place the high res ground plain.

this one is just for fun…

Haha okay I wasn’t really sure what you were looking for comments on. I do like the composition of that last test placement wise with the camera and boots.

Cool. I was just showing what i had done so far… But it gives me a great idea where i have to place the high polly ground with cracks and some weeds and stuff… Then i guess back to finish the boot and get it done. Then finish some textures on the rocks like what you guys said earlier(place some cloud texture normals and dirty stuff up a bit). But other then that i’m glad ya’ll like.

Just a conceptualization of what C.A.T.E. could look like (and function).

I wanted to post something, I have been writing the script, and then doing storyboards (which are so cheezy we cannot show them  ), so I thought I would show my version of C.A.T.E. We are exploring different designs and possibilities, no idea about which one will be used.

Of course the innards are not done, the half sphere is the top of the interior assembly. This design will have exposed pulleys and cables, reminiscent of rigging on a ship or the strings of a marionette.

Small update on C.A.T.E. (Cable assisted terrain equalizer  )

Beefed up the arms, added pulleys and cable holes, started the head and interior design. This little mech is 4-5 ft. tall, and maybe 6 feet wide.

Heavily inspired by both wall-e and johnny-5, the similiarities will only be evident for a moment during the shape change, kind of a nod towards both of those great bots. The head is still not attached, I need to work on the mechanics of the spine.

Edit: worked on the mechanical arms that will open the hatches. Struggling a little with rigging them properly, any ideas or help greatly appreciated. See attached blend, it is working as you can see in this video, just not optimal yet.

Things are settling down, the team has grown slightly smaller (hey it was already small!) but work is progressing well. My brother and I have been mired in storyboards, we have recorded a scratch dialog track, and are finally producing the story reel. I have to say, that we are so much farther along than I had even hoped, with the script finished and a good solid start on the boards, things are definitely looking good for this little project.

You can read more about our current status on the blog. http://letsmakeafilm.com

Here is the current state of the boards (Click for full-size):

Wanted to share this stylized character sheet with you guys, pretty basic really, just trying to get the proportions right. Her design may change with time, but for now here she is, our heroine Amanda.

Also updated the blog with more info about the inspiration for this design. http://letsmakeafilm.com
