Technical Showcase Animation for TUM Boring

Hello blenderartists,
Here’s our first post on the forum!

For TUM Boring’s first public launch event in July 2021, we at Skeno supported the initiative in creating animations and stills.

On TUM Boring:
TUM Boring is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the future of mobility. The group of more than 60 students from various fields at Technical University of Munich sees tunnels as a technology destined for disruption and wants to shape the future of tunneling with innovative concepts. Currently, TUM Boring aims to build the world’s fastest tunnel boring machine (TBM) and is competing in Elon Musk’s Not-a-Boring Competition together with the Technical University of Munich. The team was selected from nearly 400 teams worldwide as one of 12 finalists to compete in the race in the US this summer.

Tunnel Boring Machine - Main Showcase (for TUM Boring e.V.)

The geometry has been provided by TUM Boring. It has been created in engineering software and then exported to .fbx. Materials, animation and rendering have been done in Blender 3.0.0 Alpha (Cycles X) on a personal machine as well as on AWS instances. Through this combination, incredibly fast render times could be achieved.

We do hope that we use this forum correctly and would love to hear your feedback!
Have a great day,
Philip from Skeno

This is a very cool project, even aside from the really professional renderings!
Good luck to the TUM group!
