texturing in blender

i have had enormous trouble with texturing in blender.

i have uploaded the image i want to use, i think i have all i have to do, but it is not applying the texture to the map i am making.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

more details would help us to help you.

i apologise.

(as i say, i THINK i have done this right)

i have followed the instructions of a friend. here they are:

  1. Select your object in either Object-mode or Edit-mode.
  2. Go to the Shading-tab (F5 or that grey sphere).
  3. Go to the Material-subtab (that red sphere).
  4. Press ‘Add New’.
  5. In the Texture-panel, press ‘Add New’.
  6. In the Texture-panel, go to the Map Input-tab.
  7. Select ‘UV’.
  8. Now go to the Texture-subtab (F8 or that puma-skin).
  9. In the dropdown select ‘Image’.
  10. Browse to your imagefile.

Note: make sure your 3D view is set as View Textures.
Note: make sure you have a light.

i think i have done all that. but i dont know how to do this part:

“Note: make sure your 3D view is set as View Textures.”

i know 3D veiw is in the drop down menu by the “mode” options. but how to i make sure its set to “veiw textures”?

. but how to i make sure its set to “veiw textures”?

In the 3D View press D (Draw Type) and select Textured Solid. In the menubar of the 3D View is also an iconmenu to select this.

  1. Select ‘UV’

This assumes that you already have the same Image UVMapped in the UV Editor. If not then use ORCO instead.
