Textyring a star trek/star wars ship

What’s the best tutorial for learning to texture a star trek/star wars ship in blender 2.5+?

it looks like at the moment you are using simple materials and material indexes. the things you should look into, are 1) UV mapping and unwrapping, and texture painting, and 2) Using grayscale maps and texture channels to affect the values for normals, specularity, reflectivity, ray mirror value, emit value, etc. You may also wish to look into material and texture nodes.

I’m trying to learn nodes and cycles rendering, I’ve been thru the tut on making the suzanna go from glass to chrome like with jsut a flick on the node mode, but am looking how to do a ship trexture in it.
