.tga with transparency - transparency shows black instead

of being transparent. I have tried it both in UV image editor, where using add makes the black transparent, but the colored area is bright light colors.

Alpha makes it disappear. So I tried it as a material mapped to UV, following several different tuts and although I can see the transparency in the preview it doesn’t show in the GE.

I checked the file in psp for transparency and its OK. I am using.tga.

How do I make it transparent? With the colored areas looking as I colored them? I watched a noob to pro video but couldn’t figure out what was happening. (no sound in video)

Thank you for any advice.

Oh, and I did do a search here for help and found some great info I will add to the noob file below.

when you say shows up black, you mean in viewport or in render? If you want it in the viewport, you have to enable “Transp” in the Object panel (F7). If it’s render, might need more deetails and/or an image to look at.

The GE is where I am trying to see the transparency of the image. I cant render it because the error says its too small!

The part of the image that is to be transparent shows black, not transparent. I wonder if it is because it is tga instead of png.

I just found an online tut and tried it with their png file and it worked exactly as they said it would! How remarkable is that?

So I will try to make the image again as a png, perhaps using photoshop instead of psp? But my photoshop is old, lol.

OK, so I put my image in photoshop and changed it to reflect the alpha chanel. Wow was that easy. LOL. And applied the new png to my plane.

Athough it shows the transpancy correctly in 3d, it doesnt in the GE. So I added a box and tried the same thing. It shows correctly on one face, and solid on the rest in the GE.

Very odd, so I have posted it here if someone would please explain what the heck Im doing wrong? But I dont think I packed it. whoops.

Ok, done: http://www.4shared.com/file/14622641/7869572e/Game8.html

So, I tried for a couple hours playing with that png on the plane, and finally gave up. Since I could map it correctly with the alpha via a cube. Thats what i did.

Then I just deleted all the sides except the one, and moved the center to that side. It works, but what a long way to get to it.

So, please, I would love to know the right way to do it? The file is there, with the mouse carcass, waiting for your help.
