Hai,
so, after quite a while of working on it, Im proud to present you my first serious attempt at 3D modelling. The basis for this model are the Tha´Roon from an old RTS game called “War Wind”, however, I completely redesigned them to make them look better, while still trying to keep them as true to the original concepts as possible.
For more, higher quality images, please check the following imgur link. It also shows the references that I worked with.
Please check these images out before giving feedback as the one above is just a low quality image and really doesnt do anything justice:

Here are two test shots that I did using this model (unfortunately Youtube mangles the image quality and framerate, while Vimeo is only 720p for free users, so pick your poison I guess):
While working on this model, I basically learned everything on the fly, which includes sculpting, UV mapping and texturing, so I obviously still have ways to go, but im quite happy with how it turned out, even though the inexperience clearly shows.
The model is also fully rigged (I learned rigging and animating beforehand).
Im looking to improve myself, so im gratefull for any kind of constructive feedback you could give me. See something wrong with the mesh? Please tell. Some weird UV mapping going on? Please point it out.
I already learned alot while working on it, and now I regret that I split down the UV map on the head and body down the middle, which results in ugly seams (is there a way to avoid that?) - a mistake I already avoided on the armor and weapon.
I also found out that rigging a high poly model is quite tedious, so maybe I should do the rigging during the super low poly stage of the model? Is that a good idea and if not, why?
Alright, thanks for having a look and feedback is greatly appreciated!
