Maybe we can have mask layers? I am not sure you could store masks in sculpt layers.
I find the ability to store mask layers very useful not just for sculpting (sculpt layers) but also for vertex painting, the ability to reuse different masks is very powerful imho.
I would propose Blender devs look into how useful this addon is. The advantage of storing masks over face sets is you can store different shapes of masks of the same area whereas face sets shapes of the same areas cannot be stored and masks can also be smoothened.
So you could store different masks shapes and convert to face sets and always reuse when need be rather than creating those face sets shapes all over again.
I have difficulties to think of a sculpt layer concept that would not be associated to face sets or masks.
IMO, Joe will be immediately encouraged by community to make support of a set of face sets per layer or at least support of one mask per layer. And maybe we will end up with both.
Or a solution of storage of masks as face custom attribute would probably be asked to avoid the need of an addon.
And by wrong i mean it is not made for blender as patch right away .
But seriously: It is MIT, so license wise is ok, but it requires CUDA. I wonder if vendor locked features could be blocker for blender integration. Theoretically there is upcoming HIP for amd, but for intel and metal?
Couldn’t find anywhere in the thread: why can’t I change the size of brushes by pressing the “F” key anymore? It actually shows a GUI graphic showing the brush changing size, but it never changes the actual size when I’m sculpting. Tried with multiple brushes, it simply doesn’t work. Shift+F is not working either.
3.1.0-alpha+sculpt-dev.0837926740b3 on Windows 10. I remember the same behaviour a couple of weeks ago (haven’t sculpt in Blender, specially the dev builds, in a long while, so I’m not sure).
I’d imagine this wouldn’t change a thing. I checked and the shortcuts are assigned as they should. The circle getting bigger and smaller, as well as darker and lighter from both “F” and “Shift+F” result in no change in the actual values of the brushes. Tried multiple of them, they only change when I go on the actual slide and change the value by sliding them or inputting the value.
I’ll try the factory reset later though, just to be sure.
The feature was thought for Pablo’s workflow where mask is painted and then inverted.
And then, the small portion unmasked can be moved.
Later, Pablo created Expand mask tool with an option to automatically reposition pivot.
So, in that workflow, there is only one border between masked and unmasked regions.
By creating an inner mask in 2 parts, you create 4 borders that the tool can not handle.
That is a pity that there is no shortcut in default keymap to reposition the pivot.
You just have to create one for Active Vertex or Surface under Cursor option, to be able to place the pivot, anywhere you want.
Edit: TheRedWaxPolice is right. I totally missed that unsolved bug. But in the specific case of a mask with several borders, I always thought that any automatic position would be unsatisfying.
