The boxer - 3D caricature

hey,

new piece for my university portfolio, all made in blender with vertex lighting and SSS, the vertex lighting/ painting is used to add subtle diffrences in shade and lighting.

im not sure wether ill add arms, or just leave it as is and maybe add a pair of shorts and just stumps for the legs and pose it on a stand.

cool i like him, only his hair is odd, even for a stylized character

What hair? :^)

That black eye really looks like it hurts!

if your refering to his head? i agree, i have changed the shape of the top part.

little update, added legs. i think ill add arms soon, when/ if i do they will be overly sized arms with large muscles and club like hands/ gloves.

C+C welcome

Haha hes pretty cool. Get him so clothes on though, he’s cold!! :stuck_out_tongue:

nice job, keep at it. i like the skin materials.

thanks for the comments,

a little update. added shoes, i did model some clothes and arms but they didnt look to good, any pointers on where i can get advice on modeling clothes and arms?

the arms don’t look too bad. for shorts(assuming that what you want him to have) you could go to your model, use face select to outline all the areas the shorts would cover, and then hit extrude. alt-s would be a good way to do the scaling for the shorts. or if you want higher detail just duplicate the selected parts, hit p to separate it and then do the extrude and scaling from there. the first explanation was how I did my lowpoly attempt at Perrin.

hey,

thanks for the info on the shorts, it worked pretty well :). im currently rendering a turn around animation, so ill post a link soon.

any crits on the body or arms? cheers

turn table render, only 12 seconds :\

nice work, the gloves would look better if they were more red, but the arms and everything else looks fine. maybe a wire so everyone can see the topology, essential for posing or animating.

The result seems very good. You may play more with your lighting, increase intensity of your main light. Or use new fast ambient occlusion for animations - AAO rendereing tool - http://www.blender.org/development/current-projects/changes-since-244/approximate-ambient-occlusion/

Nice skin shader. Is it node based, UV mapped, SSS or just some basic shader? Would you be so kind to share your settings.

Good luck for next steps.
