Minor addition.

Weā€™ve given the work as a whole a name.

Hereā€™s a still unfinished logo.

I have been following this thread from the beginning and I am loving the development of this project. Awesome work so far!!!

My only crit so far is that it looks like many of the buildings are floating just above the ground.

Keep up the great work!

love the logo daworm :stuck_out_tongue:
cclark: thanks I have been adjusting them

Yeah, things are coming along quite nicely so far.
Creating some additional assets IE: carts / props etc. that we can start using to fill up the scene as we goā€¦ Warders is mostly fine-tuning building placement at this stage and weā€™re learning as we go.

Durian Blog posts are very helpful in this regards itā€™s like ā€œOHhhhā€¦ didnā€™t think of that!ā€

yes yes barrells, crates, dock posts, wagons, maybe a ship. its all progressing nicely.

have to get a new todo list together

Hi! Just wanted to say, that your 3D construction of the city is amazing. Keep up the good work!

Thanks hopefully some pics real soon.

heres a shot of the dockā€¦been playing around

for some reason my dockposts arenā€™t rendering :frowning:

Here is the latest screen i haveā€¦made the square and filling in buildings.

quite close to the main ref i think

biggest objects needed atm are trees and shrubery

time to decide on the season and begin looking for texture artists

so anyone willing to learn to model or wanting to do texture art is much appreciated:)

Lots of updates, iā€™ll post more in depth later, right now heres the latest render: http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/smilies/smile.gif

Iā€™ve compiled a slide show of all the images iā€™ve uploaded during the course of the project.
Still trying to get some decent trees.

The curves to trees script is really nice but still requires a lot of tweaking. hopefully i can finish it soon. Any critiques or help is much appreciated. i am starting to get a bit of artists blockā€¦ anyway

I wanted to create Tar Valon in 3d also, but I want to make it as realistic as possible. The island is supposed to be 10 miles long and 3-4 miles wide. I set this up in 3d Studio with a background map, then created a primitive tower 600 feet tall. With these items all to scale, the tower will not be anywhere near a large as it is on your model, or any of the images I have seen in the internet. It may be the tallest structure on the island but it will not loom over it. The squares all over the map that are taken for buildings would have to be city blocks with multiple buildings on each one. If not, then every building in Tar Valon would be 100ā€™s of feet wide.
Your model, and all other drawings I have seen of the island would have the entire island being less than 2 miles long based on the size of the tower depicted.
Has anyone noticed this issue?

This thing is epic!

I guess this project is dead.

Just stopping in to say this project is not completely dead. Its more on hold. I am gathering all .blends and other resources back to my PC. Its been a very busy year and with a 2 man team it just became more and more complicated. I have been expanding my 3d knowledge as much as possible and focusing more on organic and creating some structure to my workflows. The scale of this project is pretty large and I will be going back and making revisions on models and some whole new structures. blender itself has gone though so much change that some of these effects can be greatly improved with a lot more ease.

Wow, nice proyect. You are making a really nice city. Congratulations and good luck
