The Girl!

You would. ; D

It’s the kind of anatomy people think they know when they’ve never done it themselves, I guess. I suppose if it’s an easy area for the inexperienced to dismiss maybe it wasn’t a good example to use, but there’s a lot more going on there than people think about when they don’t have to. And it’s not forgiving.

in the article i wrote, if you scroll up, i took the example of a hand. And i specifically picked the hand because its something you look at, alot. Yet, if anyone went inn blind and tried to make one in 3D, they’d likely never get anywhere.

We are VERY good at telling when something is wrong, but terrible at pinpointing exactly WHATs wrong. Thats where training comes inn.

yep mainly anatomy and proportions are the hardest, and then shading/texturing…

well now i would like to give my point regarding this:

personally i dont care if this is from another app done procedural in a few clicks and etc, but the part i should complaint is the same thought has nanoglyph, this is not really done at all the model in blender, either sculpted from scratch, and nor textured in substance for what it seems…

dude if you really want a character artist career, the best you can and must do is to learn this from scratch, there might be tools as CC3, metahuman and others to come in the future, but this isnt really what a character artist does, there isn’t any real art there is a just thing that the program (or a computer) generated for you effortlessly…

that we use these days 3d apps and hacky and nifty tools along with them, is an necessary exception for what we call 3d “art” these days, because without this we couldn’t build anything in a efficient way rather than a hard way (way back in the years that artists had to model a human character in NURBS) but is still harder to make characters these days, but exactly how is it, did you think art is supposed to be easier to be done? what do you think the real world is? everything is art, see the nature, see the animals, see ourselvs, everything is complex from big to tiny manners and like that harder to be made.

for example if you want to model a leaf, an artist would take a good photo of some real leave and then make some model and shader for it and it works like that for the most of uses where you wont see any visible imperfections, but what if you want some really complex leave for like a closeup render, where the leave has its veins or any shapes more realistically presented, the shader more complexly build, and stuff like the an animation of being tear, or something. And even a leaf with all the microscopic details is even more complicated to reproduce…

but for 3d apps that have all this already bundled inside, not 3d modelling tools at all, but just tools to tweak the preset they give you and texturing, procedural, and touch up tools, premade XYZ displacements and shaders and stuff…

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!

Hey, one more update, I ditched her original face texture! and made a new one using a multi channel face texture from texturing.xyz! and also added a little detail about how I tweaked and made her skin texture.
better or worse this is it finally!

You’re on the #featured row! :+1:

This may be a controversial opinion, I apologize in advance if I ruffle any feathers here.

I personally don’t think this should be featured- it’s excellent, quality, well-done work, yes, but OP misled us about the creation process and tried to take credit for something they didn’t do. I personally believe that editing to give credit only when you get called out/backed into a corner doesn’t count.

I personally don’t think we should promote this kind of behavior with the highest accolade you can get on this website. (I personally see the featured row as a reward, since it’s the artwork seen most prominently of all artwork on the site, but that’s just me.)

By honoring this instance of unprofessional behavior, I worry both that a precedent is being set and also discrediting the efforts of other featured artists- in a sense, cheapening the value of the Featured row.

Again, I don’t mean to criticize any staff member. I’m not a staff member and I’ll accept whatever decisions the staff makes. By “accept”, I mean that if my concerns here are considered invalid by staff members, then I will consider them invalid as well.

Yes as the original Author i request to remove this topic, lock it, bury it, whatever is the decision, wipe my account
maybe somehow I even tricked staff to get this featured  that’s me!
really I had enough of this

Thanks Blenderartists for having a good environment for artists to share their work
and GoodBye.

There wasn’t a reward, there aren’t much rules. It’s your opinion but you are saying “we should not” and you "don’t mean to criticize" but you do and “accept whatever decisions…”… but you don’t. And reading @SirDaniel70 answers makes me sad. Everthing was already said.

You make a good point, I’ll edit my response to use less definite language and adopt a more neutral tone. I’m still concerned, but I appreciate you pointed out I need to phrase those concerns better

Nooooooooooooooooo. (It was a hard lesson and you feel hard done by but do not do this. You may just even Mute this thread for yourself and go on blending.)

Thank you very much.

I’m not sure what happened here. I was under the impression a work had to get 70% minimum positive votes to be featured (in the Lounge for level 3 users), and I checked, but from what I see it’s only at 63% and some of those people have since said they wouldn’t have voted if they knew OP had been dishonest about making the scene entirely in Blender.

I’m glad you mentioned that, I haven’t been active enough recently for Level 3 membership but I have been in the past, and that lines up with what I remember. I’m inclined to think this being featured was an accident. Even it was intentional, I stand by my previously stated concerns, but I really do think this just slid under the radar

Sometimes there are suggestions which are a very good final image posted by some people also using other platforms and i’m not pro enough to say what exactly is good about it. I can’t learn much of them. Sometimes the images even look somekind of strange but i can see there is hard work done… sometimes i see progess. Sometime i think ==== (censored). Sometimes there are also wireframes or more insights or even some kind of mini-tutorial. And of course this is just personal taste of some people who thing about some work to be featured… This isn’t a challenge with a specific title end and a final dead-line (and given rules) where someone can win hundreds of $$ . There are hundreds/thousends(/millions? ) of images which are sold via this N and then F and T (to not fire the filter;-) ) which are just === (censored again, one more and…)

There are much more terrible things out there in the real world .

I don’t want to argue with you, I understand and agree with your perspective, I just want to clarify my own.

I’m not worried about the artist using different software than Blender, that’s totally normal here and totally ok in my book. What concerns me is that the artist initially tried to keep the other software a secret, and only admitted to it after being called out by several people. Specifically, I’m more worried about someone attempting to mislead and be dishonest than about someone using different software.

What I’m saying is this: I don’t want to see work in the Featured row that wasn’t either A. created by the artist or B. properly attributed. I don’t believe it’s right or fair to creators to promote artwork that isn’t properly attributed. I believe that sets a dangerous precedent, and I don’t personally believe it’s a safe choice for an artistic community like this. Lastly, I don’t believe proper attribution counts unless it’s freely given, not forced out of a person because they get caught.

These are my beliefs, based on my perspective. If this ends up staying on the Featured row, clearly the staff members don’t agree with my perspective, and I’m ok with that, it’s their site and they’re in charge. I appreciate your perspective and I agree, this is good art that under different circumstances should absolutely be on the Featured row, even with different software used for it

Cool character!!

Nice work OP!

If you’re confused how you tricked people or why people may feel tricked, again, you originally said you made it entirely in Blender except for texture painting, and people believed you until they were told otherwise. Votes on featured are done by level 3 BA members, it’s not a staff thing. No one is saying you specifically tried to trick BA staff to get featured, but your reactions did make it seem like you wanted the prestige of being able to produce a character the quality off CC without having to admit that it came from CC, or that starting from a well-made anatomically accurate base is easier than making well made, accurate base - only that it’s faster.

Still, I think it’s good that you eventually changed your description here to be more accurate, even if it’s a little late. I wasn’t trying to make you feel personally attacked when I asked if you used Character Creator, but you kept responding to everything in an inflammatory and confrontational matter, most of which you’ve deleted.

Still, you could have admitted you used CC without resorting to personal attacks or suggesting that the BlenderArtists community is too unprofessional to understand the value of time-saving tools - as everyone has said, that was never the issue.

I hate how this topic has become a dumpster fire. Many people have had their work featured using things like highly detailed third party car models and it never bothered anyone. Just be clear about it. With the edits to the first post I think there’s nothing wrong with this work being featured now but the route to this point was painful to observe. That being said, great job on the hair, it looks very convincing. The explanation in the updates is very useful and educative as well. Thanks for sharing.
