The Great Pyramid- Weekend Challenge-Arcane

Arcane: mysterious, ancient, forgotten, out of date, sorcery.

I’m doing the great pyramids at Giza. Update Soon!

First Attempt to do the stones, simple particle system, I am going to need more control over placement and randomness.

nice… but yes, you do need more control over brick placement!

you know, you could either place all the bricks with modifiers, apply, separate, and run the randomize loc rot size script.
or, another option (probably the better one) would be to duplivert the bricks, and displace the pyramid base mesh with a clouds tex for brick randomness (i think that would work, but you might have to apply the displacement modifier first)

very interesting to do this with particules

can you explain how or may be show a little pyrame done with particules system in a sample file

and how theses random loc ect works on this ?

Thanks

Ordered randomness! Hard to achieve. Thanks spacetug, for those suggestions, all good ones, I am going to stick with particles, because I am learning the system better, and I am starting to like the results. Had to render this one on the quad core about 2.5 million faces, 4:36.

@ ricky heres the blend from the first attempt! have fun.

HD image for better critique.

My next move is to try and achieve some more randomness to the blocks but so far so good IMO.

Thanks for your comments guys!

And now… a stab at composition, of the background. I am thinking of some foreground elements presently, possibly a pillar or two and a cracked stone floor, we shall see. I desparately want to incorporate hieroglyphics into the finished piece and I am brainstorming how to do that.

I saw somewhere someone projected textures across multiple objects using an empty… Maybe you know how to do that. Something worth looking into anyway.

thanks for sample file

can you give basci explanation how to apply this particules system
how you begin this

i think your first have to draw the steps pyramide may be ?

and then you add the particules systems to it to add some stones arond the pyramide?

interesting way of adding theses stones?

happy blenering

the stones like you’ve made them are usually placed under a layer of smooth stone… most of the time there’s still a bit of that smooth stone visible at the lower parts of the pyramid… but nice work

Update foreground objects added.

@ JayDez never done that before might be worth a try. Right now just using a image texture with uv’s.

@ ricky I’l explain more if I get the time, working pretty hard on this right now and I am pressed for time at home as well.

@th55 you are right, I have some ideas to make that happen, if time permits.

i’d let the purple magic dust thing just go over the edge of the picture, and maybe a little less dots and a little more glow…

did you check in python forum
there is a script to do stones for a pyramide

but not yet very good cause it does the insdie stone also i think

but should be modified soon

cold be fun

salutations

Oh wow. That’s a really effective method.
We’ve been discussing pyramid modeling with more than 4 sides over here: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=171853

I’m really interested to see your particle system setup.

is there a way with particules system to add continous row of stones?

i mean right now it look more like random stones on the pyramide faces

and may be add some ramdom lenght if possible to do on each row

don’tknow if it would be possible to represent the Gyza pyramide without the inside stones
cause there are something like 2.4 E6 stones that’s a lot of stones
and blender wont be able to handle that many i guess

Thanks

Hey Get out and Vote! Weekend Challenge voting is open! http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=172546

It’s much more fun if more people vote.
