See the movie - Not because there’s anything to crit on the head, just because it’s a brilliant film!
You’ll need to see how all the joints move before you go much further. The joints themselves have some “special” properties that, while you won’t need to duplicate the action, you might want to take into account during modeling.
How could you have not seen the movie?!?!
The Iron Giant is “THE BEST” animated film of all time!
Actually the Best Film of all time! My favorite movie.
If you mess up on this model, I will find out where you live and burn your house down.
So, Good luck!
BTW, the toy is a bad refrenence. I’ve actually started writing comments, thinking the toy picture was your model. Go See the movie!!
I’ll definately be seeing the movie. At some point, anyway…
I realize the toy isn’t the best reference, but I can’t seem to find any through Google. Perhaps watching the movie would give me a better idea, but that has yet to take place.
This is about my third work in Blender, so it won’t be perfect. I may return to this project after using Blender a few years to create a better version. For now, it’s just practice (So please don’t hurt me!).
It was actually in 3d, but rendered as 2d in the movie. If you take a look in the special features of the DVD, they have a scene where the giant does a dance (I believe it was in 3d.)
Yes i love this film. I was thinking about trying that character out as well, since it was a 3d character. They pulled off the 2d look with it very well.
As previously mentioned, I’m still very much an amature with Blender, meaning this won’t look exaclty like the Iron Giant, not matter how hard I try. In the end, I’m limited by experience, knowledge, and ability, as well as the all important references. So don’t think of this so much as a project to recreate the Iron Giant as one to use it as a base. I’ll have to be imaginative to fill in “artistically” where my actual technical ability fails.
