The Late Valentine

Hey guys, been working on a scene for Valentine’s Day but I’ve been busy and it ended up late! I have been learning from the very useful feedback that members kindly gave me for my previous projects and tried not to make the same mistake.

Please let me know how I can improve! Any comments and feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks for viewing!

I like the concept as well as the depth of field, it instantly let your eyes focus on the two characters. I don’t like the heart on the left that much, for me it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the scene. The rose looks very flat, for me it breaks the realism you took so much effort to create.

Thanks for the feedback! Based on the feedback, I’ve done an update to the photo, I’ve removed that burnt heart shape from the table and I’ve tried to make the rose more realistic by tweaking the material settings, and the result is as such:

A close up is here:

Not sure if it looks realistic? And how can it be made more believable? Do let me know if there are any ideas for improvements!

I felt like having some fun and here’s the result. Rendering grass has always been a chore for me, not only it is computationally expensive and slow, but it is also difficult to model individually to get the desired look and variation. Hence, I decided to dabble in the different render passes and do more work in post processing and compositing my renders, so that next time I can just composite the more difficult elements of the scene and leave rendering for just the main objects in the scene.

I’m still not sure how well this method works, but it seems like a rather attractive idea to me. Do let me know what you guys think, and also any tips and shortcuts that you guys use!

Also, I would appreciate if someone could point me to any tutorials specifically targeted at compositing for CG scenes such as for grass, water, landscapes, fur etc…

Thanks a lot!

your grass looks nice, but if you are going for an outdoor scene your lighting needs to change, currently it is to sharp, for an outdoor scene I would suggest an hdr image. For nature related tutorials lookup blender guru, he has lots of tutorials on that subject.
