The Librarian - Can You Get a 3D Artist Job as a Blender User in the Game and Film Industry? + Timelapse Video

The librarian is a fun character I did in Blender. In the video below there is a full timelapse of the creation of this character and i also covered the topic on how Blender affects your chances of being hired in the industry. Enjoy!

Hahaha lol, very nice character AND topic :smiley: .

But I have other questions :

  • Are every Blender users looking for a job?
  • Why would we need to ask ourselves, when we do Blender if this will generate employment?
  • Is this the purpose of Blender? Can we do Blender only for the sake of Art?
  • Can we see Blender as a tool to teach users programming langages, mathematics, arts, english, modeling, rigging, animations?
  • Is there an incompatibility between a professionnal tool and a tool for hobbyists?

And others:

  • Could Blender Foundation ask for subventions to Culture institutions for example?..

And others:

  • Could Blender Foundation do more often code quests?..
    :smiley:

How much of your skills are in drawing? Did you start to draw anatomically correct people before you started with 3D or did you go all the way with 3D from the beginning?

I feel many are thinking wrong when skipping drawing just to go directly on 3D but I could be wrong of course.

Thank you!

Thanks Bart!!

@aWeirdOwl

Thanks, and here are my answers to your questions:

  • Nope, not every artist is looking for a job, i don’t for example.
  • Because some of us want to do art for a living, if Blender is out first choice of program it is only natural to ask this question.
  • You can do Blender for whatever purpose you want, but think of it this way. If you want to spend every minute doing art, then wouldn’t it be smart to find a job doing art too? After all, most people spend most of their time working to make a living.
  • Yes, it is being done as we speak, been so for a long time i believe.
  • Not sure if i understand this one, i guess it would depend on the tool.
  • Can’t answer questions for the Blender Foundation, i am not part of it :slight_smile:
  • Same, a question meant for the Blender Foundation.

@BigBlend

I started with 3D but realized that drawing is important, i draw now as well. I think people will give you different answers for this one, i say learn to draw.

man this is great work,
nice timelapse and nice info you shared
thanks

Nice work as always Yan! I’m really glad you’re so open with your workflow and willing to answer questions. One time you recommended the book Classic Human Anatomy, and I have since gotten the book and have been studying and drawing from the book every day, and I certainly would not be doing this if it weren’t for you. I hope to be half as skilled as you one day!

Great insight, thanx :+1:

@YanSculpts: Thanks for your answers :slight_smile: For me, these questions can be a subject of a debate, Thanks to share your opinion. And thanks to share your art :slight_smile:
