The magical dissapearing eye

welcome, ladies and gentlemen. for tonight’s entertainment, the amazing dissapearing eye!

Object mode:

now you see it…

rendered:

now you don’t!

ooh… where’s it gone?? O.o

but seriously, the specularity’s still there, but the rest of it’s totally invisible! what’s happening?

What are the settings of the white part material? It looks like you have enabled Alpha and Z transparency.

Nope, no ztransparency, and the alpha is all the way at 1. it’s a mystery. any other ideas?

also, here’s the material (real rough outline of it, anyway)

First of all, get the newest version of blender :stuck_out_tongue:
Have you tried turning off things one by one? And making sure that the white material is assigned to the eye? It says Material.005, so I’m assuming there are other materials in the scene that could be assigned to the sclera.

BlenderNewb101,

I noticed from your last screen shot, that the object you have selected has 2 material indices. You are showing the 2nd index. What are the material properties of the first index, and which faces are assigned to each index?

Best of Luck!

Well, I just tried fooling with the texture to see if I could get it to render, and had no success. I’m sure now that it isn’t a material problem, because when I applied the iris texture to the eye, it still didn’t show up! now I’m just more confused than ever O.o
Is there some kind of option to make an object invisible when rendered, no matter what the material is?

It IS a material problem. I just solved the case! You see, that sclera material (Material.005) doesn’t have ANY specularity. However, the sclera that’s rendered DOES. So I do believe your cornea material is applied to your sclera. :>
