The Magnificent'e City

@XeroShadow, add on my ass. It looks like a damn real city. The planning is exquisite, there are even parks!!

@Impreza, my condolences on your late PC. The city must’ve killed it.

So the guy made it with out the use of a add on from Blender?

He made it in Cityengine, which is a seperate thingy. I think.

Ooh…http://www.esri.com/software/cityengine

It converts real city data into 3D. Inteeeresting.

Ok, I took a look at that program. I would prefer how to make one on my own. But this would be a useful tool. If you have half a grand to blow.

I’m loving this thread - good luck swaschan, and looking forward to seeing the progress  This sort of fun and enthusiasm is what Blender is all about (for me)

Looks like it only does UV sets in the Advanced version…

So that’s $4000 for something really useful…

Hhahahaha…well, 4k is a little too extreme, no?

Gotta love torrents, and kat.ph, although piratebay’s better…but PB’s search has gone terribly awry.

This is really a lot of work, I hope to see the final result.

Hahah, yeah

Status report for 30/1/13

5 buildings done and dusted.

Does anybody have a sky HDRI?

I just love how threads go dormant :stuck_out_tongue:

anyways, my guesstimate is that most of your through and through bored with this thread. So here’s a test render to spice things up hopefully. My exams are finished for now, I’ll get to work pretty darn fast.

I’m going to try a different technique now. Instead of wasting time and segregating huge buildings, I’m essentially going to texture chunks of the city at a time. Circle select mode, FTW!

UPDATE : Although I was and will do the project on my own, the timeframe is worrying for me. If someone can help, much appreciated. Special thanks to rarebit, who’s trying to analyze the city but will be having a hard time.

Who’s bored? I’m checking back for daily updates. Nice render so far

I’m sorry for the slow rate of progress. ii forgot to post the latest results yesterday but today i am going to go full ape-like on texturing. I have a holiday tommorrow.

@swmo Your dedication is appreciated, but it seems that you and DerekG are the only ones who give a shit about this thread lol. I’m glad for that as well.

And yes, this city will be used for a very cool movie. The script is squared out, the sculpts will be ready soon, and some tests will take place. Then the movie will be put in the slow development mode till June, and expected release is 31st July, 2013. The movie’s name is Hour Game. It’s heavily based on David Baldacci’s book. Right now the motley crew Ii’ve put together consists of me, Impreza09 who are active, and inactive members such as DavidG, Joe Grimer, and VinceM. It seems producing a 1 hour 40 minutes movie is all up to me, and I have prepared for it. Learning Aftereffects was a real pain but I’ve done that as well. Since Storm’s volumetrics are not gonna be in trunk for some while, volumetric effects will have to be composited frame by frame in GIMP from the Mitsuba and Luxrender, not B.I, since unbiased volumetrics are obviously a WIN.

-swaschan, and I hope this post brings the thread back onto page 1 of W.I.P
