The moon render

A render made in blender cycles of the moon! Please let me know how I can improve and adjustments I can make to make this render look nicer!

Thanks!

Hey Chickenator  I’ve done a couple of space scenes before, so I might have a little bit of useful advice. One thing that I think is really lacking is the amount of stars. I’ll post a couple of images here that I hope will help you with it. One of them is the node setup is used for my asteroid scene, and you can adjust the amount and size of the star with the black/white color ramp. The blue/white color ramp attached to the voroni texture is completely optional, and I don’t think it’s necessary in your scene since yours isn’t in deep space. You can remove those nodes completely, and just use the top part. Also, moving the camera closer, can give it a much nicer point of interest, as all that black space kinda takes away a bit from the image. I really hope this helps, and look forward to seeing your results

Thanks! I’ll try and edit it and if it goes well I’ll post it here as a reply!

Here it is! (if you’re still interested)

Hey Chickenator. Yes i’m still interested lol :stuck_out_tongue: I’m keeping up with this thread. It’s looking better now, but I still feel like the stars should be a bit brighter(or slightly more prominent). Also, I did a little bit of experimenting with a scene very similar to yours, and I think you should try increasing the area of your sun lamp to something around 0.3 or 0.4, and enable the ambient occlusion at around 0.005. The ambient occlusion gives a very subtle difference, but makes it so the darkened area of the moon doesn’t look like a void. You can change it as you please, as these are only suggestions. One last thing, I think the moon is just a bit too glossy. You should try plugging the texture into both the displacement slot on the material output as well as the glossy color. If you’d like me to take a couple of screenshots of my settings and the image, I’ll post them for you. I hope this helps you out  happy blending

Hi Chickenator! (remember me :P) looks great, awesome render!

Here’s after a few adjustments:
