The Nautilus And The Devilfish

Having recently listened to an audio book of Jule Verne’s “Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Seas” I wanted to recreate a moody underwater scene inspired by it. I went with the chapter “The Devilfish”, in which the Nautilus (Captain Nemo’s submarine) encounters a swarm (flock, herd?) of kraken, that soon after attack the ship.

I tried to stick to the book’s description of the Nautilus, so no fancy Disney-esk ornaments, but instead a non-nonsense design, much as the Captain’s personality: Cigar shaped cylinder with tapered ends of 70 m length and 8 m width; a deck some 80 cm over the water line; a pilothouse in the front and a lantern illuminating the surrounding sea aft.

Ready to ram some ships!
