The rotation animation is lost when the transform is released

This is probably a simple question for those familiar with blender.
If I maintain the transform and release it, I lose the rotation animation I have created. The structure is rotated by parenting a spherical emptiness to a one-sided object. I would have to break the existing parent-child relationship in order to rotate the other faces as well. Please help.

I would probably not use parenting for this, as you say each rotation would mess up the child/parent relationship for the next one.
