The tubes

Hey guys,

This is an idea I had a little bit ago. I feel like Ive gotten to the point where it could be improved but I’m not sure where.

One thing I did notice is that the spot lamp doesen’t really line up with the actual lamp…

If you could help out, that would be awesome.

It’s a nice moody piece.

Is that a shear drop right behind you as you sit?

I think the bevel modifier is causing a slight problem with the texturing - Probably be best to apply the bevel, and work on the texture a little…

but it seams an uncomfortable place to sit with a shear drop right behind you - I get it that that is kinda the point.

Hey that’s really nice, good job. Maybe you could do some texture painting on that big machine behind the computer, add some more dark to it and make it a little dirty. Also the lamp looks a little too clean and modern for where it is. Finally could you add some thin wires behind the tubes, I think this would really add to the effect.

Thanks for the help, guys, I really appreciate it!
Here is today’s work and a couple of angles that I’m contemplating.

Planing to continue to grunge it up.

The mechanical parts could use some more detail.

The first thing that I’d do is to take my cropping-tools to this picture and cut away everything that isn’t part of the picture, to find “the picture within the picture.” I’d do this for a photo just as I would with CG. I would cut away the dark area on the left side leaving only a slight bit where the angled brace comes up, and likewise cut on the right side up to the innermost 45º angle. Then I would work on the “hidden” lighting – the “non-practical” lighting, in places like the top of the tubes and whatever-it-is that I dimly glimpse in some corridor behind the desk.

Thanks again for the help. It’s SO valuable to me to get this feedback.

Okay, here’s the current render:

I’m still playing with the light. It’s turning out to be a bit of a struggle.
