The basic Wolven silver sword from the game.
I modeled everything by myself.
Materials are completely procedural, rendered using Cycles.
Next thing to do is the scabbard.
Thoughts so far?
Hey Stef1309,
no answers so far?
Well the model looks good, in my opinion the pommel needs some further work, but otherwise it’s good.
On the material side, they’re “ok”, a good basis to start off with. I would suggest:
- use some subtle color variations for the glossy color (subtle!!)
- adjust the scratches, they seem to be “scattered” randomly over the surface, real world materials have scratches on the edges, at convex surface parts, at heavily used spots AND their direction makes sense
- add some “grunge”…some parts are more “grungy” some are less
- decrease the bump strength of your scratches a bit
- mix the blades diffuse color with flat gray, it looks a bit too…“texturish” for me
Just think about using a real sword, more used parts have less grunge but more scratches and vice versa etc.
Anyway, looks great so far, just keep working on it. When I’m back home I’ll post some nice tutorials matching these issues and some more detailed suggestions and examples. Until then, look for CynicatPro on Youtube, he got also some really nice videos about shaders, especially metal shaders.
best regards
Harle
Thanks for the reply, hadn’t had a PC for a while so I couldn’t work on this but now I will get into it again.
Could you tell me how I can improve the pommel?
I will work on the materials using your suggestions.
I hope to get some results by this weekend.
