The Wizard of OZ

This isn’t really a WIP any more since I not going to do any more work on it, but it’s also not really finished, so I’m not really sure where to put it. C&C is of course, still welcome. It’s the giant disembodied head of the Wizard of OZ that I projected on a wall of the music hall where my school performed the play of the same name. It’s rigged and has a material and animation, but the only part of it I’m really happy with is the stylized model, so here it is.

Wow. That is awesome work! Great job!

Maybe you could have continued with the angular shapes all over the model.

Pretty nice model over all. Some small glitches, but if you’re not going to fix them, it’s not really worth mentioning them either. :^j

cool!, keep on posting updates! I like the style!

Well, if it’s an issue within the model, then I don’t mind fixing it. What I meant by not working on it was really that I don’t want to rig it again, and I have a lot to learn about Blender’s material system before I skin it. But if you have comments on the model itself, by all means, shoot away.

nice! can you put up the animation?

Like I said, bad animation. The rig itself is really the problem. I don’t have shape keys, it’s just bones, which kind of makes it a pain to make it look good.

I’m no expert and I can’t even model one.
I did notice you have triangles in spots that
you don’t even need them.
The ear looks odd.
I think if you cleaned it up a bit and maybe redid the ear
you could call it done.

I love the chin, really good angular face.

Quite nice stile. But the topology needs lots of improvements. This is a good thread with good advices - http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=93651

@JDA: Where are there odd triangles? What about the ear is odd?

@joeyea: Thank you.

@JiriH: Thank you for that link, it’s invaluable. I’m originally a lowpoly modeler, so I’ve never used subsurf to model. It’s and interesting process. If I find time, I’ll try and figure out how to make good skin materials.

Thank you all for your comments.

Please tell me what’s wrong with the ears? (I ask meekly…)

They look perfect IMHO but the topology is quite…err…messy (too many triangles). Probably he meant that

Because I’m new to the High-Poly/Subsurf modeling scene, what is wrong with triangles exactly, and is there a good definition for topology I might be able to have a wee peek at?
