Thomas “Big Tom” Castellano was designed as a mafia don of New York in the 1950s. He is cool, calm and confident, but at the same time brutal and despicable. This character was inspired by film noirs and that dark, mystical atmosphere found all around the genre.
I sculpted this character and his clothes with Zbrush, using a default brushes (Standart, Move etc). Then I used Maya for retopology and Blender for lighting and rendering.
Awesome, everything looks top notch, even the wrinkles in the clothes are perfectly subtle for the style. Only minor ‘criticism’ I have is that on the second shot I think the lower part of the arm holding the cigar looks off, the angle of the arm doesn’t seem to line up.
This is great work. It feels like a cartoon drawing that has been rendered in 3D. It definitely has the film noir feel to it. Now, we just need a few more bad guys and femme fatales to go with him, and you can start on your next Blender movie!
I’m so glad you liked it! To be honest, I don’t have any plans to create a whole cast for this story. However, I feel that I definitely need to come back to this project at some point and create a character who could resist Thomas.
