Good day, everyone! I wanted to share a project that I have been working on, both as a music producer and illustrator. I wanted to create a fun lyric video for our song “Rocking Down the Highway.” The idea was to animate the single artwork, by having the song progress towards the final frame of the artwork. As I worked on the original idea, the idea to add performance videos to the billboards came to mind. So my brother and friend joined in, recording themselves performing their parts.
The animated scene alone took me about 200 hours. Including mistakes and restarts. That doesn’t include the time spent on recording, mixing, and mastering the music.

I admit it took me waaay too long to realize that they were driving on a keyboard. (I was wondering what was up with that wonky road for a while, lol.)
The UFOs were an interesting touch. I admit I didn’t expect that.
Anecdote time: I used to listen to the radio all the time as a kid. And when I turned twelve or so I began to understand the lyrics… and was honestly horrified. So much beautiful music wasted on stupid lyrics about lust.
In a similar vein, I used to spend a lot of time at the comic book store browsing for something actually good to read. They were always playing heavy metal of the pure noise variety, extra loud. Gave me a headache. But every now and then the noise would drop away and the most beautiful instrumental melodies would fill the place and about bring me to tears.
I always wondered how people whose minds are filled with noise could occasionally put out music so soaring and uplifting. Of course, they probably didn’t think of it that way when writing it, and after a few minutes it was right back to the noise, heh.
I hope people occasionally tell you, “thanks for writing songs with uplifting lyrics.” Even if half of those people are your grandma. It is good to ponder on things above the mundane.
Yeah, the Keyboard Highway was a point of deliberation of how to execute, with minimal effort. As one solid, continuous road, it takes time to figure out what it is. But if broken up, it loses being an actual road.
Agreed, lyrically so much music pushed out into the world is self centered and filled with inane repetition. My goal is to write music with substance and that is uplifting to the best of my ability!
