Tiger Moth - Laputa (Castle in the Sky)

I am currently working on a somewhat realistic looking version of the pirate ship ‘Tiger Moth’ from the Ghibli film ‘Castle in the Sky’. My idea here is to give it substantially greater details than is visible in the film and thus make it somewhat semi-practical in terms of its appearance.

More of the interior sections such as the cabins and walkways along with some of the power and propulsion components are now complete. I have a basic idea for showing how power is transferred from the engines at the back of the ship to the propeller mounted on the wings while allowing for wing rotation like in the movie.

Following the addition of the living quarters and some structural pieces, I have now completed some of the missing components such as the elevator, outer ladders, patchwork fabric over the various surfaces, and also a door that closes the hangar at the bottom of the ship. The materials are simply placeholders for showing the geometry.

A rudimentary interior using a combination of assets made by me along with some kitbashed assets ( I initially planned on making everything, but it would have taken way longer). The primary purpose of these interior items is to cast interesting silhouettes and shadows when viewed through the windows. Some of the items such as the steering components and the navigational compass were originally made for the HMS Dreadnought project but were never visible since I was not satisfied with the amount of details I had put for the interiors in that project.

Does it match the film in every detail? Absolutely not, but the plan was always to make some changes. So I decided to stick to this cockpit layout. The amount of detail in the cockpit (or is it a bridge? not quite sure) is somewhat higher than the living quarters since it has the largest windows and thus more visibility.

Just enough of a ‘living quarters’ as possible.

A look from outside through those windows
