This is my interpretation of the iconic Tiger Moth airship flown by the Dola gang from the Studio Ghibli film ‘Laputa: Castle in the Sky’. I have always been fascinated by the incredible variety of flying machines (some real and some imaginary) that have been depicted in these movies and this is my attempt at bringing them to life using realistic materials. I must admit that there are some liberties I have taken with certain components such as the wooden propellers and the iron-plated hangar bay (I believe it is a wooden structure in the film) that I thought would better fit the steampunk aesthetic of the airship.
While the ailerons may appear unnecessary for a tilt-rotor craft, I felt their addition would make some practical sense for quick maneuvers.
I added tiny metal stitches to show the patchwork nature of the structure and this extends to all fabric-covered surfaces of the craft such as the tails and wings.
The original walkway appears to be mostly unlit during the various scenes in the film, but I decided that the industrial lighting helps with the aesthetic (it is also functional)
Clearly not intended for real-time rendering (at least not on my machine!)
