I just realised that I may need to look into opening a few new social media accounts…

That Christmas my parents didn’t have enough money to buy me the Amiga…so I got an ST…and it’s haunted me ever since…

I understand, I wasn’t able to get one until the A500 came out, and it was still $700. Luckily at the time I had a real job and could afford it. Convincing the wife on the other hand…

Hehe! I was only 10 or 11 at the time so my understanding of the late 80s economy and how tough it must have been for my parents back then wasn’t a factor in my adolescent brain. Ireland in the 1980s was still transitioning from the late-Medieval period… :joy:

Too funny, isn’t Ireland more tech-savvy now, or is that Wales? It’s strange, but I don’t remember it being so bad. It feels worse now then it did back then, maybe I’m just getting older. At the time we were living in Reno Nevada and things like food was really cheap. All the casinos were subsidizing food, so if you were desperate, you could go down to Eddy’s Fabulous Fifties and eat at their crappy all-you-can-eat buffet for $1.35. And at the Silver Club you could do all-you-can-eat steak buffet for $6.00. And if you were feeling really spendy, you could go to the all-you-can-eat buffet at the Nugget for $12.00.

I think you can see the trend there.

Hehe! Yeah, I’m exaggerating just a wee bit. It’s Ireland. Massive U.S tech and pharma investment. Ireland has been consistent top 10 for years on the Human index scale. Things have changed quite a bit since the 80s.

Now that’s proper value. It might kill you with heart disease, but at least you won’t die of starvation.

This is nothing short of child neglect. I’d sue them.

I confess that, many(!) years ago, I tried to host a “forum” on my company website and therefore I became a “moderator.” It did not require any time at all for me to realize how useless this endeavor had become.

I subsequently decided to remove the “forum” entirely. Happily, my paying customers did not object.

“Moderator” is a special breed of participant. We absolutely cannot exist without them – even though we are not explicitly aware that they are even there. But I now readily accept that I do not meet the minimal qualifications for the job. (Thank you …)

Maintaining all of those accounts has to be an absolute chore, especially since many of these sites express an affinity for random UI and usability changes while introducing bugs that take a long time to fix (because the developers need something to do, even if it is pointless).

That is not to mention the annual Terms of Service changes which may even be retroactive (requiring you to check all of your old content for compliance). There is no way I would have that many accounts on that many sites going at once.

Yeah, the frequent changes just for the sake of change are frustrating indeed. I don’t maintain all of these accounts with the same frequency / effort. I guess I just love online communication, and you never know if sharing your work on any one of those accounts attracts a potential customer.

The reason I ended up with the ST was because my uncle was a big Atari nerd back in the day, and he convinced my parents that it was the better deal of the two.

I still feel the effects of that horrible decision to this day.

In the end they all went bust. I loved my ST.

At least I still have my 800XL. I’ve been wanting to clean it off, and hook it back up for years now.
