What do I do to create that curve in a curved floor lamp ?

How exactly did you go about attempting to make it from curves?
What works for me is:
Add bezier curve and edit it to the desired shape
Bevel it from the curve data panel (circled in red on the screenshot)
Increase the resolution (circled in pink on the screenshot)
Press Ctrl-C to convert the curve to mesh.
