Toby Unchained

There’s a concept that came from ancient times, that is kind of forgotten now, that when a sculptor is making a form out of stuff, whether it is clay, marble, or wood, then he’s unchaining, or freeing the thing being formed, that actually has existed inside, from the prison of said material.

I never really understood the concept, until I made this model. Her name is Toby, and I’ve created her before two years ago, here, before I decided to make a better version of it. Just like when I made her then, I feel the same thing now, and that is unchaining a human figure, out of a prison of 3D matrix.

It felt great then, and it feels great now to get the chance of feeling it again.

Here’s a fun turnaround video of Toby:

If you’re interested to see Toby for yourself, you can get it now on Gumroad.

That’s it for now. If you’ve got anything to say about Toby, I want to hear it.

Best,
Vincentius
