Transparency on viewport?

Hi,

Does Blender 2.55 beta support alpha transparency on viewport?
For example I have a plane with texture map with alpha and want to “cut out” unwanted areas, but still see color map with it.

Thanks

Yes, see this demo http://www.screencast.com/users/blenderwho/folders/Jing/media/421e4e07-e5ca-4727-8e6d-ad595c111c0f . Viewport set to Textured view and in the Properites (N key) / Display settings set to GLSL

What do you exactly mean by “cut out unwanted areas” ?

OK, nice! I tested GLSL, but I had only area light so it wasn’t illuminating my object on viewport (why not? Spot and point light works well)

Oh, I had to change raytrace to Z transparency from material.

EDIT: With shaderless option on, I get visual feedback without adding extra light!
