transparent material render depth/ z-buffering

Hi gurus

If I want to achieve the effect on the far right of this picture using a node setup is it
a. possible
b. possible you can please explain/ demonstrate an example node setup for me? :yes:
Essentially it’s so that you can’t see the back side of the model through the front side…

I believe it is something to do with render depth or z-buffering?

any thoughts on this?

Isn’t it easier to do this in post-production (= render it opaque and use a reduced opacity for that layer in compositing)?
