I am trying to open a very old file I made in 2012 with blender 2.6.2 in 3.6.5
I am missing the render icon and the colors.
How can I recover this if it is still possible ?
junior_final_new.blend (5.0 MB)
Feel free to use the blend file.

Unfortunately Blender internal textures do not convert to nodes automatically, the images and UV’s should be there (if they were packed) but you have to redo the shader in nodes.
There is a script here: (I have not tried it)
https://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/364/how-do-i-convert-materials-from-blender-internal-to-cycles
O sorry i did not remember that i made this for blender internal normally i made it all for blender cycles. Thanks anyhow
I think it would be good to make it suitable for blender 3 6.
AFAIK the problem is: the old material isn’t loaded at all in newer blender versions… also cycles was rewritten and changed some times… so it is something like a multiple generation material evolution jumping task to solve…
So if someone starts 2.79 uses this usefull tool (it’s installed on my 2.79 instance ) and then refine the shader further in the actual blender… then for a dev it isn’t much worth to reinvent the wheel…
So should i open the file in blender 2.79 ?
To solve the issue?
As said :The addon for converting it into a cycles material is for the 2.x version of blender… and still the PBR sytem of cycles is differetn from the internal shaders so it looks different…
Eevee was developed later and also is different but at leat yu can use the node uses in cycles…
All in all you may have to re-create the material anyway… so this might even do not help you and you may be better of by just building some from scratch…
…and of course your already in 3.6 opened and saved files doesn’t help at all…

I have the original file from 2.6.2 added but I will make the materials from scratch
Seems to work pretty well… after enabling the converter in 2.79, convert and then loading and rendering in 3.6.5 :
Is there a converter in blender 2 79b ?
Did not know that.
You already tagged it as the solution… and this was what i was also talking about… and used…
