Before I say anything else, I want to say I love this forum. I’ve browsed around it for about week now and the artwork here just blows me away. Now on to my question…
I’m extremely new at this 3D stuff. I know how to program in several languages. But nothing prepared me for this. Anyway, I have finished my lil guy in the tutorial at the wiki ebook textbook site. It took me all morning just to get the hat on the guy. grrrrrr…At any rate, I want to render him now but when I do, I only get like the lower half. Is there any way to do it so that I get all of him? I can hardly wait to learn to put clothes on him. All the poor guy has right now is a hat.
If you started from the default scene, you should have a camera. Split your 3d window in two by right-clicking on the scene. In one view, press numpad 0 so you can see what the camera sees. If you don’t have a camera, just add one with spacebar. Then, in the other view, use the top/font/side views to move and rotate your camera until you get the view you want.
To render, just press f12. Something you might want to do is press F8 to get into the world options and enable Amb Occ. The number of samples determines the quality (to an extent) and the Energy detemines the brightness of the AO. AO is a way to illuminate your scene without using lamps, and it can also be used with lamps too.
It’s only the dotted lines (the ones nearer to the white line) that describe what’s going to be rendered. When you change your resolution (800x600 or 600x800) in the render menue, you will notice that not the white lines change, only the dotted lines within the white square will change.
You can also grab your camera by selecting it(lmb) and then move it around by pressing ‘g’(grab). In this case you could move the camera back so everything fits in.
Also, by pressing ctrl+alt+numbpad 0 you can set your current view to camera view.
