Turntable - Best way to model?

Hello everyone.

I have decided to model a turntable, however I have a few concerns on how to get the best result… So here I am to hear some of the more experienced modellers for advice!

This is what I am aiming for… But I am not quite sure how to make the small dubs that you can see on this picture:

Also I am a bit curious when it comes to a texture and text… Should I write the text seperately and place it afterwards or add it as a part of the texture itself?

Low poly I would just use a texture to represent the “small dubs”. High polly I would probably create one repeatable section of small dubs, then use a curve and an array to repeat the pattern all the way around the turntable spinny thing…

I can’t seem to make the curve and array technique work… When I try to place the dubs around the spinny thing, it is either completly centered in the middle of it all, or if I add some offset it will turn into a hurricane looking thing. How do I apply the section & array directly ONTO the actual circle shape that I want it to follow?

I think it might be caused by the fact that the section is rotated slightly which makes the array continue in weird directions?

This is the result of me playing around with the different options… I just couldn’t seem to make it get anywhere close to what I was aiming for, what am I doing wrong?

Personally I’d probably go with a circular array.

Move the Origin of the dubs-part to the center of the spinny thing (fiddle with the 3d cursor, then ctrl shift alt c)
Add an array to the dubs-part. Remove Relative offset, check Object offset. Crank up Count.
For offset, use an Empty placed at the center of the scene. Rotate it slightly on Z.

You could also work with various methods of duplication or instancing, but it’s likely to get more messy.

I ended up going with the dubs-part being in the center then duplicating a billion times… I couldn’t get that array to work, however I think it turned out quite alright! So now I can happily continue my little project. - What do you think so far?
