i got this nice tut on ionic capital
it’s on way to do it
but i’m having some difficulties on page 2 to do the base of the column
called a pedestal
some of the steps are not well explain and cannot figure out
what was met in between!
it’s only tht this is a tut on ionic capital
which is another way of doing it
and i just wanted to understand how he did it
i have another way of doing it with spin dup
but i would like to find another way of doing it
i tried it but there seems to be some missing importtatnt steps here in this ttut
see the pic - this is what i got but it’s not like the one shown at the end of the tut
Those are some nice crackings!
I can’t find Voronoi Crackle texture is it a plugin?
About the pillar above I dont have problems following the tutorial (see below) although it is poorly written indeed.
Did you remove the doubles? And if the vertices are too close probably you have removed some important.
Can you post a solid + wireframe of the model and close up of the problem area?
Very nice Syziph. Works perfectly. Shortest, easiest tut ever. I’ve been using blender for 6 years or so and never came across the ctrl+r thing. Just goes to show how complex blender can be…
Thanks for voronoi cracle hint. I haven’t played too much with textures.
Why it isn’t in Voronoi texture itself but in Clouds?
There is no missing step but you’re missing one step:
Select the top of all three boxes. Go to top view and then press ‘.’. Now scale them so they line up like on pic below.
You’ll notice that your elements are bumping out a little in Top view - the above step scales some of the parts towards the center of the column. So it should look like in the picture.
Anyways you have to look for duplicated vertices all the time, so I agree that this tutorial needs revision.
I saw the corintian capitol. It looks complex but there is few repetetive elements. Ofcourse the details probably have to be done with sculpting and multires. If you find some good references we can try to model it too
Thanls, 3dmedieval - we are learning all the time. When you stop learning new things - that is a problem
asked the designer?
don’t know with the craked texture is apart of the texutre itself
this is why the texture is so versatile and complicated
there are millions of possibilities !
can you make a little file with the base shape with the faces on
i’m still having problem seeing all edges and faces in the base object
it would help a lot if you could do that and would be lot faster for me to understand the base shape - in the tut this is a weakness i think not being shown clearly!
i was looking at your way of doing the column
and how did you go from plane to cylinder - nice trick
see pic
Yeah Extrude faces
Here is the blend file (hopefully I haven’t deleted it)
Just delete the two lower parts and continue with Spin Dup with the same settings as in the tutorial.
i’m not certain if this is the most appropriate way to d o it
the wraping will create a distorted new shape
but if the distorsion is not to high then i guess this is an acceptable compromise
but in a certain way i prefer to use the spin dup method which has no distorsion and gives more precise control over the final results!
Note: you haven’t seen any model of a corinthian capital somewhere!
that’s my immediate model for this week if not 2 weeks because that’s a complicated model
to do
