altr doesnt make a difereence
Calvin or anybody i’ve been meaning to ask - how can you crease the eyelids so that they look “blocky” like veggietales?
-theblenderboy
What do you mean by blocky… can you post a picture?
Hey Calvin, I was wondering, since you created the eye tut, would there be anyway you might be able to alter it a little to make a good mouth tut? I need to make a mouth but mine look bleh… Unless someone knows of a tut also, (I need it to open, and be “pulled” like the eyes with the lattice, so you can get a smirk, open and angry looking…)
these:
i’ve tried with Ctrl-E, but i couldn’t get it right.
If you get a CVS build, they’ve added a “view name” option (Top, Bottom, Right, Left)
CVS builds here.
This is the one I’ve been using on Windows without any problems.

just when you make the pupil after duping the “lids” scale it down a lot more than usual…
You can look at this tutorial (which I also created): http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66609

Here is one of our Eyelids…
- Select the Loop Subdivide tool (Ctrl+R)
Move the loop close to the edge…
add another loop… (also very close to edge)
and here is the result: (you can also make the eyelids bigger, so the edge stands out a bit more.)
hey thanks alot. for some reason creasing doesn’t quite cut it.
edit perfect! instant veggie-tales.
i dedicate my avatar pic to you Calvin.
Well, before we added the empty (track to), the eyes were staring straight ahead. So you can easily animate the “Influence.”
Go to a certain frame, set influence to 0.0 and hitt “key” and than move to the frame you want the eyes to heed the empty to 1.0.
Its all your fault that I am picking up animation again.
Thankyou very much for making it!

Thanks for your Cartoon Eyes tutorial.
The following is in 2.41.
I can’t get the pupil to track to the Empty: as soon as the Tracking constraint is set up, the pupil disappears, turning 90 degrees to point upwards along the Z axis.
I hope the detailed steps shown in the following pics (as attachments) make it clear what I did so that you can see what I have done wrong.
I have also tried: select eye, SHIFT-RMB Empty, CTRL-TKEY, choose “Track-To” – but the result is the same.
Here are some pics as attachments:
- Before setting up tracking: before-tracking.png
- After creating the Empty: empty-created.png
- The Constraint panel showing no Track-To object: constraint-opened.png
- The Constraint panel after “Empty” has been added as the Track-To object: constraint-Empty-added.png
- The Empty moved about -80 degrees to show the pupil just appearing under the top eyelid: constraint-Empty-moved.pngThanks for any help anyone can offer.
Thanks for all the tutorials that have made it possible to get this far

wynnmc:→ under the Track to heading To should be Z and Up should be Y, not Y and Z
Thanks – trying to do things without really understanding them :o
“Clear rotation” also came to mind soon after clicking “Submit Reply”: clicking the eye and then ALT-RKEY turned it through 180 degrees – looking through the back of its head.
Turning it back through 180 degrees, setting the size and rotation with CTRL-AKEY, and then doing the Track-To with CTRL-TKEY worked.
Perhaps understanding will come some day…
Hello,
I am trying you eye tutorial - However i get stuck at Step 8.

Hey, I decided to learn this method and everything worked out perfectly until i got to the empty. First i didn’t know what you meant by “be sure to clear its rotation” so i selected the empty and then pressed [NKEY] and put all of those rotation values to Zero, is that right? Then i went and put the constraint values to the specificed X,Y,orZ value you indicated but when i put the one on the right to Y, the eye rotated to behind the eyelid. Now, in order to have the pupil visible i have to have the empty be behind the eye and about 40 segments under it.
Were there some other things i missed? What are the settings for this that i’m screwing up?
o, and caden vekk,
to clear rotation you selecect the object then space>trandform>clear/apply>clear rotation
