I found a zillions of tutorials how to import Daz stuff but not a single tutorial how to import simple scene with props only from blender to Daz.
What I want to try is to import the scene to Daz, pose the characters and morph the expressions , and then send the posed characters to the original scene in blender, each pose for different render. Tha’s why I don’t need to import mats and textures to Daz.
PS. I don’t know how top translate the Blender node trees into Daz shaders besides the very basic shaders so don’t intent to render scenes in Daz, at least for now.
You can export your scene in Blender as a OBJ file. In DAZ Studio import it with a scale of 10000. All imported Cycles materials are converted to a white 3dlight material in DAZ Studio.
With importing the character in Blender you have to create Cycles materials for it. There is a free script for DAZ Studio and Blender that creates Cycles materials during export from DAZ Studio it is called Teleblender.
When you have a lot of poses to render it is easier to create Iray materials for your scene in DAZ Studio and render the scene in DAZ Studio.
Thanks. I saw this script last update was in 2013. Do you use it?
As for the obj export to Daz I experiment right now with this and found out Daz treats all the objects as a single object. Also when I exported a single object - yes, it was all white but when I exported the whole scene (about 20 objects) they all because invisible without applying some textures. Do you have a preferred settings for export?
As for the rendering in Iray my knowledge of Daz is very superficial (well, the users are supposed to buy stuff there, not to have serious knowledge of the software) and I am afraid I may not be able to create some special effects for which there are zillions of tutorials in Blender.
The last time I use mcjTeleBlender not a lot then I work the other way around, from Blender to DAZ Studio.
You can also use the Collada (dae) format to export 3D models from Blender to DAZ Studio. The most of the time the settings are not really relevant only when you create morphs for DAZ Studio objects then Keep Vertex Order is import to switch on in OBJ format.
DAZ also support creating content for DAZ Studio then most of the content they sell is not created by them self. They sell tutorials for it like from Esha and Sickleyield. Sickleyield uses also Blender to create her products.
I prefer Blender but when characters are needed I use mostly DAZ Studio to render. I bring the self created props from Blender to DAZ Studio and create the Iray materials. This is mostly the fastest way for me to get the job done. DAZ Studio can’t do these special effects like Blender can do. For these renders exporting to Blender is needed.
Tried to export through DAE and indeed it seems much better - at least it doesn’t make from all the imported objects a single object. Only have to find the correct scale. For OBJ it is 1:100 (10000%), for DAE seems around 1:4
Edit: LOL… looks like I just made my scene 4 times bigger and forgot about this; will look how to scale the transfer 4 times.
In the dae file is the unit that is used, so the importer knows what the dimensions are. I use metric in Blender and when I import the dae file in DAZ Studio the dimensions are the same as in Blender. I can’t set the scale during importing.
OK, I see, thanks.
May I ask something about the dimensions? I made the scene in 2 layers, both set to Metrics and Unit scale = 1; but nevertheless in one of the layers the dimensions are 1:4 as I intended when started ti, but in the other the dimensions are 1000 times bigger - what is 1m in the 1st layer is marked in the second as 1 km; nevertheless both layers fit to each other and as I said they both seems to create with the same scale and metrics.
Any advice why this?
I never saw a different scale on an other layer in Blender and I don’t see a setting for this. Maybe you imported some thing with large dimentions on that layer.
It doesn’t seems to matter. Lets think the God of the Bugs made a joke:-)
(on the “km” layer there are 4-5 different objects so it is not from import; anyway I already forgot about it).
