Hey guys, I started using blender sometime ago and I am loving it so far. However, I was wondering if there is a tutorial on making a hoodie sweatshirt. Preferably one that has the hood down.
I plan to make a anamorphic character model (a furry, like Sonic and those Star Fox guys for those of you who are hardcore gamers)with that hoodie but should I be making the body itself first (Without the clothes) or can I make the hoodie first and make that as part of the model.
Will continue my research on this but if you can help, I appreciate it.
I seriously doubt it. You might try googling ‘tutorial Blender 3D hoodie’ but I don’t think you’ll find anything useful. You might get further, faster, by beginning it any old way, posting your initial work in a Work In Progress thread, and ask for advice with any problems you run into.
Have you got the character you plan to dress in this hoodie? Most people model clothing for particular characters, rather than just model the clothing in a vacuum.
I can’t vouch 100% for the quality of the tut as haven’t done this one but did notice it the other day and had a quick scrub through looks ok Nd good start and def modelling a hoodie
as as others have said and in vid id do body first. Just download make human it’s free and import one of those into blender if you don’t have anything you have made yourself you can push those to extremes to make it more stylised if you like and start from there rather than making the mesh from scratch if you wanted to.
Modelling clothing doesn’t really give you realistic results… If you want to manually make it then look into sculpting and retopology. The problem with the tutorial above is that the clothing looks too lifeless, there are no folds or creases and it appears to float above the skin. I hate to recommend external applications but unless you’re proficient with the Blender cloth physics then I’d look into using something such as Marvelous Designer which as of the last update allows you to convert a cloth simulation into an all-quads mesh.
That looks really nice, I’ve not had a chance to play with marvellous designer yet, is it easy to pick up and integrate with blender? I guess just export mesh in a format blender can read and import into blender ? it looks like it should be but would be interested to hear first hand.
Marvelous Designer is a funny bag of beans. To understand its workflow is pretty easy, it works much in the same way you’d knit or sow a real piece of clothing. You start by creating islands with curves which represent the segments of a piece of clothing. You then organize how they’ll be sown together using well, the sowing tool.
You then place the parts around a character and simply simulate the clothing. You can play with many different variables such as wind, tension and weight. The great thing with the new Marvelous Designer is that it’s able to automate a polygonal model from the simulation which uses only quads. You can specify its complexity and export it as an .obj for Blender or any other 3D application. Simply import the model and apply a subsurf modifier. Done.
